To my dearest Amma,

My name is Bernad George and I hail from Maliyeckal Veedu, Alangad village in North Paravoor taluk. My family consists of myself, my wife and sister. I used to do coolie work and that was the only source of income in the family. One year back I suffered from fever. I was taken to a local hospital and the doctors performed various tests and I was diagnosed with cancer. After that I went to a hospital in Cochin and CT scan and other tests were performed there. Since then I have been surviving on just medication. In the midst of all this, my sister became mentally ill and we were in deep financial crisis. So I had to sell my house and with that money we bought this small house and the rest of the money was used to clear my debts. For the past five months, my condition has been very bad and I was unable to do anything. Some of my friends took care of the family’s expenses and also bought the necessary medicines for me. Even then I had borrowed a huge amount of Rs. 35,000 from my friends. At that time I met a friend of mine who was Amma’s devotee and told me about Amma’s hospital and the charitable activities. Thus I came here and consulted the doctor. I underwent counseling and I gained immense self confidence. So I was interested in getting treatment from here and I gave an application to receive fifteen radiations. I was given a report and following that, someone came to my house for enquiry and agreed to provide me with treatment help. I was given Rs. 10,790 as treatment help. I received excellent service and cooperation from all the doctors, nurses and other staff in this hospital. In God’s name I thank Amma and this institution for all the help. I pray to God that all the people who are financially poor receive help and compassion from this institution. I give full consent to publish my photograph along with this letter in Amma’s publication.

Regards,
Bernad George

Pranams to Amma

My name is Shanmughan and I hail from East Kallada panchayat in Kollam district. I thank Amma for providing Rs. 1,32,351 as treatment help for my son’s treatment. We are from a very poor financial background. My family consists of myself, my wife Omana and children Anoop and Nikesh. All I have is six cents of land. My son was undergoing treatment in a local hospital following heart problems. From there he was referred to Amrita Hospital. Following that me and my family went to Amritapuri and met Amma personally and told about my son’s illness. As per Amma’s advice, we contacted patient services. Someone from patient services enquired about my living conditions. So he got admitted on October 11, 2008, the surgery was performed and was treated for another eight more days. We offer our gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and other staff in this hospital for all their help. We offer a million pranams to Amma for providing Rs. 1,32,351 as treatment help. I give full consent to publish my son’s photograph along with this letter in Amma’s publication.

I am a coolie worker. I have less eyesight in one my eyes and its been this way for a while now. When my son Anoop was two years old, he was diagnosed with a hole in his heart. He had to undergo surgery, but due to financial constraints that did not happen till now. Around a year back, he suffered from high fever and was admitted in a local hospital. In the checkup he was again diagnosed with heart problem and the doctors suggested surgery. The doctors referred him to Amrita Hospital. Due to financial constraints we could not afford the surgery. It is only with the help of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi that my son’s surgery which was getting postponed for a long time took place successfully. We will forever be indebted to Amma for all the help. We were given treatment help of Rs. 1,32,351 from the patient services department as part of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math. With Amma’s grace, I got back my son’s life.

Shanmughan

Dear Amma,

I am Viji, wife of Shanmughan. We hail from Trichur district. Around three months back, one night my husband experienced weakness and started sweating all on sudden. Immediately he was taken to a nearby hospital and an ECG was performed and they asked us to transfer him to another hospital in the city. The doctors diagnosed that he had a heart attack. Immediately they gave him an injection and he was admitted there for two weeks. At that time a huge amount of Rs. 20,000 was spent for his treatment. My family consists of myself, my husband and our two children. My parents also live with us. The entire family depends on his mere wages for livelihood. Even his relatives are in a very bad financial situation. At this point we reached Amma’s hospital to correctly diagnose his situation and the doctor suggested angiogram. The angiogram showed three blocks and the doctors said that one of them needed angioplasty. We had already spent a large amount of money for his treatment in the past and could not afford any at this point. So we were asked to contact patient services. My husband has 20 cents of land. We got a letter from patient services which we took to the ashram in Trichur and immediately they understood our problems and told us that they would help us by paying some amount of money. We got the date for the angioplasty much earlier than we expected. We borrowed some money to give at the hospital. We thank Amma for Her kind heartedness and providing Rs.14,884 as treatment help. I hope and pray that many people get this kind of help from this institution. All the doctors and other staff in this hospital were very helpful. I give full consent to publish my husband’s photograph along with this letter in Amma’s publication.

Viji Shanmughan

Dearest Amma,

My name is Shahida and I hail from Kalpetta in Wayanad district. My husband Azeez got admitted in Amrita Hospital for treatment of blood cancer. My parents who are old aged and my daughter who is 3½ years old live together. I live with my husband in a rented house. We are highly indebted to Amma for providing Rs. 10,505 as treatment help. Initially he was admitted in a local hospital for treatment. The doctor there referred us to Amrita Hospital. We had spent a huge amount of Rs. 80,000 in the other hospital. Aum Amriteswaryai Namah

Dear Vallikkavu Amma,

For days now, myself and my wife have been feeling mentally weak. Yesterday my son’s surgery was successfully performed. Now we are relived. He is our only son. We were in deep sorrow when he lost his eyesight, but Amma’s blessings never left us. No matter how much we thank Her, it will never be enough.

My son is studying in a school in Mangalore. One day while in class, the child sitting next to him poked his eye with his pencil. Though the teacher saw it, she did not inform us then. We took him to a doctor in Shimoga and was referred to a hospital in Manipal. Since we didn’t have enough money to take him there, we did not go there. When we fought with the school authorities we were given Rs. 7500 as compensation, but that money was not enough for his treatment. The school management trustees had agreed to provide all the help needed for his treatment, but when the time came nobody was willing to help us. Amma did not leave us alone at that time. All the staff in the hospital were very loving in nature and extremely efficient in carrying out their duties. I offer my heartfelt gratitude to Amma, the doctors who treated my son and other staff in this hospital for all the help. I am highly indebted to Amma for providing Rs. 18,566 as treatment help for my son’s eye surgery. All I have is tears to offer at Amma’s holy feet. I give consent to publish my son’s photograph along with this letter in Amma’s publication.

Haridas

Dear Amma,

My name is Mini Padmanabhan and I hail from Kunnathunaadu taluk in Ernakulam district. My family consists of myself, my father, mother, husband and our two daughters. Both my parents are ill. My husband works as a helper in a workshop. We have not been able to build a house of our own till now. I stay in my house. The financial condition in my husband’s house is very bad. He has one brother who is mentally challenged. So he has to take care of his brother too.

My second daughter Minnu was a heart patient by birth. She underwent two surgeries at Am rita Hospital. Initially we took her to a nearby hospital. The doctor there referred us to this hospital. Mini had her first surgery when she was just 1 ½ months old. We borrowed money from our relatives to meet the surgery expenses. The next surgery was performed when she turned 3 years old. Before that surgery we contacted patient services. A swamiji came to our house for enquiry and was convinced of our poor living condition. As a result we got treatment help from Amma. Her third surgery was done when she was 8 years old. We were told that it would cost a huge amount of money. So we contacted patient services again seeking help. They understood our financial problems and we were given treatment help of Rs. 68058 from Amma’s charity. We will forever be thankful and indebted to Amma for all the help. We will never forget Amma in our lives. I always see Amma’s reflection when I look at my daughter’s face. All the doctors and nurses who treated my daughter were very hospitable toward us, which bought a lot of joy in our hearts. I give full consent to publish my daughter’s photograph along with this letter in Amma’s publication. Once again a million pranams to Amma.
