AUM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH

In the presence of our respected Mata Amritanandamayi,

This is Soman, son of Kunjiraman who is expired, from Kuttoor village in
Tiruvalla district. I am a member of a very poor family. Ten years back, I started having diabetis and high blood pressure. At that time I had a heart attack and was admitted in a local hospital and had to take costly injection.Following that I was on medication for 2 years. After that I had severe pain in my right foot for about 2 years and after a while, both feet started paining and I started having problems to walk and climb uphill. As a result I could not even go for any work. My eldest son Anil kumar is a painter. He took care of my medications and all the household expenses. My younger son is still studying. I own a cow without milking. All on a sudden my illness got worse. I was taken to a local hospital, but they said that they did not have the facility to treat me there and so referred us to Mata Amritanandamayi Hospital. Thus I
reached this hospital and I had to undergo 2 tests and the doctors said that I had to undergo surgery immediately. We had no money to afford my surgery. I told them about my poor financial condition and I was given free treatment worth Rs. 49,100/-. My family and myself will always be grateful to Mata Amritanandamayi Amma for helping us by providing Rs. 49,100/- for the surgery.

Regards,
Soman and son Anilkumar

For the treatment I had incurred heavy debits and it to find money for surgery. During this time I contacted with Patient Service. As a result Amma allotted a huge amount for my treatment. Thus by giving huge amount for my treatment Amma was saving my life. I am offering heartfelt thanks to Amma for your grace.

Aum Namah Shivaya

My Dear Amma,

I am from Pangode in Trivandrum district. I am financially very poor and work on daily wages. All I have is 5 cents of land and a small house. I have only 1 daughter. My husband passed away 30 years back. My daughter has 3 children. My daughter got married off without any dowry. Her husband is a fisherman and they are staying in Kollam district.

One and half years back I suffered from chest pain and my neighbours took me to a local hospital. I underwent a lot of tests and it was diagnosed that I had a heart attack. I was told that I had to undergo a bypass surgery, which would cost a huge amount. Nor my children or me could afford such a huge amount. I decided that I would not undergo a surgery and would continue on medication.

That is when I came to know about Amma. So we came over to Amrita Hospital. The doctors told that I had to undergo a surgery. I informed this to patient services and everyone at patient services gave us excellent guidance. As per their instructions, I got admitted and the surgery was successfully performed on May 25, 2006 and I was given excellent treatment. It was Mata Amritanandamayi Amma, the mother of the universe who helped us by providing the huge amount of Rs. 72,000 for the surgery. I will forever be obliged to Amma for giving me this new life. Thousands of Pranams to Amma for providing Rs. 72,000 for the surgery.

AMRITA care 2005

AMRITA is committed to providing compassionate medical care to all, regardless of race, caste, religion, or economic condition. We offer charitable care to the fullest extent possible for those in need. As medical insurance is largely unavailable in India, the hospital dedicates a portion of its resources to serving patients who are too poor to pay for their treatment.

While the majority of AMRITA' patients pay for all of their services, in 2005 free in-patient treatment or major financial concessions were extended to 18,045 patients, covering the whole spectrum of activities. Of these patients, 5445 patients received totally free treatment. In addition, another 11,500 out-patients were recipients of charitable care. Among the in-patients, free surgeries were conducted in 299 out of the 1246 surgeries by Adult Cardiology, and Adult Cardiovascular Surgery, with major financial concessions extended to another 347 patients - representing over half of all of the adult cardiac surgeries for the year. Among children, nearly 58% of the 695 Paediatric Cardiology surgeries in 2005 were either totally free or offered with major financial concessions.

In addition, to make available free medical check-ups to poor patients at their door-step in remote villages, who are not able to access the facilities in AMRITA at Kochi due to distance, more than 100 free medical camps were conducted in 2005 in those inaccessible villages. After diagnosis in the free camps, patients are often brought to AMRITA to make them beneficiaries of free medical facilities.

These letters are a sample of the thousands we have received from patients and their families who were afforded either free treatment or services at a greatly reduced charge.
