My Dearest AMMA,
I am Anandan, staying in Arrathupuzha Panchayat, Ramancheri. I am a fisherman. My family consists of my wife, 4-year-old son, and my mother who is very sick and cannot move without the help of a stick. I have had a heart problem for the past 7 months. Doctors told us that there is a problem in the valve and a surgery is required, which will cost 2 lakh rupees. We cannot even think about the cost and at that time we heard of the services and financial aid provided by Amma and Amrita hospital. Then we went to see Amma and told Her all our difficulties and She told us to apply for treatment help and gave us a letter.
The surgery was conducted on January 5, 2007 and with the grace of Amma we got the treatment help. The surgery had cost Rs.1,11,000/- but conducted free of cost. We are very much grateful and thankful to Amma for Her kind help. I also thank the doctors and staff of the hospital for their kind and courteous behavior. I am always happy to see Amma and I do not have enough words to express my gratitude to Amma. We hope that She will shower Her blessings upon us always.
Regards,
Latha Anandan (wife).
Words of gratitude from the patients who did treatment at Amrita Hospital (AIMS), Kochi at free of cost or at subsidized rate.

To Our Lovable and Dear Amma,
My name is Molly Chacko. We are from Ernakulam district, Kizhakambalam. We have 2 children. My husband had got a heart complaint and when we consulted doctors of a nearby hospital, they told us he needs a surgery. We are financially setback and could not afford this surgery. We came to know about Amrita hospital from a neighbor, whose daughter’s heart surgery was done here free of cost. We heard that Amma provides treatment help and service for the poor people who do not have enough money for their livelihood.
Our neighbor brought us to this hospital. We got Rs.46,0681/- as a concession from the operation charges. Before the operation, an angiogram was taken and they had done this procedure free of cost. For the help that Amma has done for us, we are very much thankful to Her.The doctors and staffs of this hospital showed a great deal of kindness and courtesy towards us and for that I would like to express my sincere thanks to them. I am also conveying my regards to AIMS hospital for helping and supporting us. At the same time I am also praying for a long life for Amma and may Amma provide help to the poor people like us. Once again I am thankful to Amma.

Both the families was against our marriage. On 4th December 2006, I became a father and after the birth of our son also, our families were against us. Hearing this we almost broke down.
Then we met the patient service department and told them about our pathetic condition. They enquired about me and through the Mata Amritanandamayi Math, they granted Rs.73,500/- for the operation. For saving my child’s life I am obliged to Amma. I am expressing my heartfelt gratitude for Her blessings and help. Amma will always occupy an important positon in our hearts.

When we heard about the camp conducted at Brahmasthanam, we went with all the scan reports and they gave a card to visit the doctor in the Amrita Hospital. Then we went to the Amrita hospital and there we got the appointment and the doctor told us it is the early stage of cancer. As it is only the early stage, it can be treated with an operation. Then we approached the patient service department and they enquired about us.
On 1 January 2006, they conducted the operation and on 8 January 2006, I was discharged. He is finding it very difficult to go to school because his hands and legs are always feeling tired and he is frequently affected with fever and chest pain. We took him to the hospital and blood test was done and the docotrs recommended an Echo Test. When Echo Test was done, the doctors said that there is a hole in the heart and an open-heart surgery is required. Then we consulted in other hospitals, they also told us the same thing. Then we came Amrita hospital. Two years ago we had spent Rs.1,00,000/- for another surgery. I have not been able to repay that amount till now. When I heard about my son’s disease and surgery, I was really shocked. I cannot afford such a huge amount.
I heard that Amma will help us and we approached the patient service department and they gave us a letter and enquiry was done. Amma who helps the poor people whole-heartedly helped me and gave a treatment help of Rs.57,000/-. We are really very happy and I express my heartfelt thanks to Amma. I would like to pray to God to give a long life to Amma. I got the opportunity to meet Amma and I will surely come to visit Amma when my son becomes all right. The behavior of the doctors and staff are also good and dedicated. Above all, the staffs of the patient service department came to see my son while our stay in the hospital. I am really very thankful to Amma for Her help.

My Humble Pranams to AMMA,
I am Mohammed and I am staying in Palakkad District, Poothalakkal house, Edathanadu. I am working as a coolie and my Wife’s name is Subaida. We have 4 children, Saligal, Jumaila, Jubria, Junaith. We have a small house on 5 cents. For the past 8 years, I have had a heart problem and by giving a donation of 1001/-, the operation had been conducted at AIMS. Then I had undergone some checkups with a low cost in Amrita hospital. My daughter Jumaila (19) also has a heart problem, and the doctor had recommended for a valve transplant.
Doctors told us that her surgery would cost 35,000/- and we arranged a sum of 15,000/- and were not in a position to arrange the balance amount as I am a coolie. I was hoping for the kindness and help from Amma. By the grace of Amma the surgery has been conducted and by paying the balance amount of 25,400/- the hospital authorities had showed great kindness towards us. I am very much thankful to Amma, the doctors and other hospital staff for providing us such help. They also provided 5000/- for a surgery conducted for the heart valve. The behavior of the doctors and the staffs was also very pleasing and helpful.

My name is Rajesh and I am from Kozhikode district, Vadakara taluk, Valiyapally panchayat. My family consists of my mother and two sisters. My father expired 11 years ago. My father died when we were in a very bad financial condition. After my father's death, I had to look after my family. My elder sister is having a heart problem from her childhood onwards. We had taken her to many hospitals. She underwent a lot of treatment and a lot of money was spent for the medicines and treatment, but her illness was not cured.
At last, we came to Amrita hospital, after all the tests were done the doctors told she needed a surgery which will cost Rs.1,60,000/-. There is no way we could make that much money. Through the patient service department, people came to our house and enquired about us. Then we got a help of Rs.81,244/-. Amma showed kindness towards us by helping us. We will never forget the help provided by Amma in our whole lifetime. Through the kind and lovable behavior, Amma shows the right way to mankind.

My name is Satheesh and I am from Perumbavoor. I am working as a driver and my family consists of my parents, wife and our daughter. From birth onwards, our daughter has had a heart problem. When an Echo scan was done, I was told that a major surgery would be required. So we came to Amrita Hospital. The doctors conducted many tests and found that there is a hole and block in her heart. They also told that if she does not undergo surgery, the disease would affect her body physically and mentally. A few days later, her hands and legs became blue in color. Doctors told us that the surgery would require Rs.80,000/-.
I do not have that much money to do the operation. My parents are also ill and they are also undergoing treatment. I am finding it very difficult to meet the expenses. I earn a small income from my job, which is not enough for daily living. Then we approached the patient service department and with their help, tests and operations were conducted. The operation had cost Rs.1,15,901/- and the hospital bared the whole amount. The doctors and staff helped us and provided us with all necessary support during our stay in the hospital. I would like to thank Amma for providing Her blessings and also for granting treatment help.

I am Mohanan and my daughter’s name is Priya. She is 11 years old and studying in 6th standard. For the past four months, she has a severe headache and tiredness of her hands and legs. She is not able to carry her school bag and she is also not in a position to walk or eat. We took her to all the nearby hospitals and after checkup they told us that she had a hole in her heart and if it becomes greater than 8mm an operation is required. We are from a very poor family and we have already spent Rs.20,000/- for her treatment. We are not in a position to bare the treatment and operation charges, as I am a coolie worker and financially very weak.
For the treatment, we came to the Amrita hospital. As we are not able to undertake the treatment expenses, we approached the patient service department. They enquired about us and understood our situation. We are great devotees of Amma. We saw Amma and told Her our situation and from Amma’s Ashram we got a letter to show to the patient service department. As a result we did not have to pay the operation charges. On 13th she was admitted in the hospital and on 15th the surgery was conducted. The surgery had cost Rs.1,60,796/-. She is doing well now. We would like to show our sincere gratitude to Amma and thanks to all the doctors and staff of the hospital.
Regards,
K. Mohanan (father).

My humble pranams to the Lotus feet of our dear and Kind AMMA,
My name is Hamza. I am financially very poor and earn my livelihood by doing coolie works. My family consists of my wife and 2 children. I had got severe heart attack and I was always feeling very tired and was not in a position to go for work. For a long time I was under treatment in another hospital. On the advice of relatives and neighbors we consulted the doctor in the Cardiology department in the Amrita Hospital on December 2005 and continued the treatment. But no cure was found even after taking the medicines. After an Angiogram was done, 3 blocks were found in my heart and I was told that I needed to undergo a bypass surgery.
It was very difficult to buy the medicines itself, and we are not in a position to afford the cost of operation. On 5/12/2006, I was admitted to the hospital as my disease became very severe and on 7/12/2006 the surgery was performed. The surgery had cost Rs.94,600/- and it was done free of cost. We are thankful to Amma for helping us. We would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and staffs of hospital. We are always expecting the blessings and kindness from Amma.
Regards, Hamza

We were heart broken mentally and physically. That is when we came to know about Amma and Amma’s selfless services. We have a lot of gratitude towards Amma for conducting my child’s surgery without any problems. Amma took all the expenses. The services provided in this hospital are excellent. Dearest Amma,
I am Biju.P.V from Elankannapuzha in Ernakulam district. Following 28 days of my child’s birth, my child was underweight and the doctors referred her to Amma’s hospital. The doctors checked her and diagnosed that there was a hole in her blood stream and they told that sometimes it would close on its own or else a surgery would be required later in life. We used to bring her every month for checkups and she was always fine. She underwent checkup thrice and she had no problems till then. All on a sudden from June 5, 2006, the child started crying a lot and was not feeding well. So we came over to Amma’s hospital and the doctors suggested surgery.
When I was told the surgery charges I contacted Patient Services and told them about my poor financial situation. I work as an accountant of a fisherman. My family consists of my father, mother, myself, my wife, and my daughter. I get very low wages. Amma has helped us before when we were victims of the tsunami. Amma helped me by granting Rs 43000/- and making the surgery free of cost. I offer my gratitude and prayers to Amma. All the doctors, nurses and other staff in Amma’s hospital are very loving.
I offer my gratitude to everyone in this hospital.

Thus we came over to this hospital with the reference letter and the doctor in this hospital suggested surgery.

My younger son Sumesh Krishnan was a heart patient from the time of birth. We took him to a lot of hospitals for treatment. My husband works on daily wages. Due to a lot of debt, a doctor from a local hospital asked us to go to Amma’s hospital for help.
Due to high debt, my husband could not support us and so left us all alone, and went away. I have a very small job in a cashew factory. The whole family lives on my very low wages. With Amma’s help, we got a huge amount of Rs. 1,39,779/- for my son’s surgery and the doctors told me that the surgery was successful. All the doctors, nurses and other staff in this hospital are very loving and caring and show no discrimination between the rich and the poor. We offer our gratitude to Amma for all the help. We will never forget this great help in life.
Regards,
Suvarnakumari, mother of Sumesh

I am Usman from Vallikkunnam village in Mavellikkara in Alleppey district.
It was 5 ½ years back that I suffered from my first episode of chest pain. I was admitted in a hospital in Trivandrum and an angiogram test was performed and I was diagnosed with 4 blocks and was asked to undergo immediate surgery. I came to Amrita Hospital with and consulted the heart specialist. The doctor suggested that I would be recovered only through a bypass surgery.
My family consists of myself, my wife and a 6 ½ year old daughter. I sold my auto rickshaw to meet the expense of my first angiogram. After that I could not do any work. The only means of income in the family was from my auto rickshaw. Due to very poor financial situation, I was in a state where I could not afford the surgery. That is when I contacted the patient services department and told my grievances to them. I pleaded for Amma’s help to save both my family and me. Due to Amma’s mercy, I underwent free bypass surgery worth Rs. 97,500 and my life was saved.
This poor family offers our million Pranams at the holy feet of Amma for giving a huge amount of Rs. 97,500 and saving my family and me. We also offer our Pranams to Amma who gave me a new life and who has been an ocean of love and heavenly light by wiping the tears of the poor and for showering flowers of compassion and comfort and for helping my family and me from the sea of sorrow. Myself and my family offer our gratitude to everyone in patient services for showering us with touch of love and with words of compassion and also thank everyone for not putting us through any trouble and for helping us. Once again my family and myself offer our gratitude to Amma who has been ever shining like a silver star.

Respected Amma,
My son, Akhil had difficulties in breathing and hearing by birth. He was born before date. He was admitted a Hospital at Ernakulam for 13 days. Even after treatment for 8 years, there was no change in the state of his illness. And so, we were directed to AIMS, Kochi. Only on diagnosis at Amrita could we understand the real cause of his illness. His lungs were in a shrink state and did not expand as needed. The doctor suggested an operation.
We live in a house on 15 cents plot at Chalakka, Kuthukara Panchayath. Since his father was a coolie and myself was housewife, we could not afford the charges. We contacted Patient Services department for financial assist. Without paying even a single rupee, he could undergo the operation. We express our humble salutations to Amma for granting Rs.25,000/ treatment help for my son, by which he was back to life. We also express the gratitude to the staff of the hospital, doctors and nurse who were very kind to us.

My Dear Amma,
I am from Pangode in Trivandrum district. I am financially very poor and work on daily wages. All I have is 5 cents of land and a small house. I have only 1 daughter. My husband passed away 30 years back. My daughter has 3 children. My daughter got married off without any dowry. Her husband is a fisherman and they are staying in Kollam district.
One and half years back I suffered from chest pain and my neighbours took me to a local hospital. I underwent a lot of tests and it was diagnosed that I had a heart attack. I was told that I had to undergo a bypass surgery, which would cost a huge amount. Nor my children or me could afford such a huge amount. I decided that I would not undergo a surgery and would continue on medication.
That is when I came to know about Amma. So we came over to Amrita Hospital. The doctors told that I had to undergo a surgery. I informed this to patient services and everyone at patient services gave us excellent guidance. As per their instructions, I got admitted and the surgery was successfully performed on May 25, 2006 and I was given excellent treatment. It was Mata Amritanandamayi Amma, the mother of the universe who helped us by providing the huge amount of Rs. 72,000 for the surgery. I will forever be obliged to Amma for giving me this new life. Thousands of Pranams to Amma for providing Rs. 72,000 for the surgery.
I can never forget Amma in my life. I hope that Amma be able to help more and more people like me who come to this hospital.
Regards,
Sabija Beevi

Pranam’s to Amma,
I am from Parayeri house in Vellimadukunnu at Kozhikode. I have 2 daughters and a son. 8 years before my son passed away. It gave me great mental pain and all my dreams in life came to an end. During my retired life, I suffered many difficulties to get my daughters married.
I am a heart patient. I was under treatment in a nearby hospital and I was not able to continue the treatment due to my financial crisis. At that time I came to hear about Amma’s hospital and came here. I did Angiogram test from here and as per the result Doctor ordered for a surgery. I was working in KSRTC dipo. There was no means for me to arrange the huge amount for surgery in my retired life.
I am very thankfull to Amma for granting me Rs 1,07142/- for my heart surgery. I will be ever obliged to all Doctors, nurses and other staff for helping me in curing the disease. Amma, I will be ever grateful for providing me the surgery free of cost and saving my life.
Regards,
Bhaskaran and Rajeesh

My wife has been hospitalized in one of the local hospitals and undergoing treatment for the past 1 ½ months. She was diagnosed with brain tumor there and the doctors said that a surgery had to be performed. Due to my financial constraints, we came to Amma’s hospital. We saw the doctor and got admitted. The surgery was performed successfully.
As I work on daily wages I could not afford my wife’s treatment. My family and myself offer our gratitude and affection to Amma for all the help given for the treatment.
We live in a place called Pizhala. My family consists of my wife, 2 children and myself. Our eldest child is studying for Plus one and the younger one in class 10.
I work on daily wages and I suffer from piles. Because of that I am unable to go for work daily. We meet our daily expenses with a lot of difficulty. We offer our gratitude and love to Amma for providing free treatment to my wife worth Rs. 37,939/. The doctors and all the other staff in the hospital are very loving and caring.
With Regards

AMRITA care 2005
AMRITA is committed to providing compassionate medical care to all, regardless of race, caste, religion, or economic condition. We offer charitable care to the fullest extent possible for those in need. As medical insurance is largely unavailable in India, the hospital dedicates a portion of its resources to serving patients who are too poor to pay for their treatment.
While the majority of AMRITA' patients pay for all of their services, in 2005 free in-patient treatment or major financial concessions were extended to 18,045 patients, covering the whole spectrum of activities. Of these patients, 5445 patients received totally free treatment. In addition, another 11,500 out-patients were recipients of charitable care. Among the in-patients, free surgeries were conducted in 299 out of the 1246 surgeries by Adult Cardiology, and Adult Cardiovascular Surgery, with major financial concessions extended to another 347 patients - representing over half of all of the adult cardiac surgeries for the year. Among children, nearly 58% of the 695 Paediatric Cardiology surgeries in 2005 were either totally free or offered with major financial concessions.
In addition, to make available free medical check-ups to poor patients at their door-step in remote villages, who are not able to access the facilities in AMRITA at Kochi due to distance, more than 100 free medical camps were conducted in 2005 in those inaccessible villages. After diagnosis in the free camps, patients are often brought to AMRITA to make them beneficiaries of free medical facilities.
These letters are a sample of the thousands we have received from patients and their families who were afforded either free treatment or services at a greatly reduced charge.
